Systems Neuroscience

Systems neuroscience is an umbrella term covering study areas focused on the understanding of the link between the nervous system and behavior. It encompasses simple behaviors like honeybees’ orientation flight to higher order cognitive functions in human like attention and memory. Systems Neuroscientists study the nervous system at the system level meaning that they do not focus only on single neurons functioning but they consider the interaction between them. It benefits from knowledge and expertise acquired from electrophysiology, neuroimaging, and computational modelling and promises to open new horizons in our understanding of the nervous system and connected disorders in order to find a more comprehensive approach for their treatment.
